What is hydrogen water?

With the development of hydrogen health care, more and more manufacturers have begun to launch hydrogen water products. Whether it is the canned "hydrogen water" often seen in Japanese convenience stores, or the various "hydrogen water cups" commonly seen on the market, "drinking hydrogen water" has become the most accessible and experienced hydrogen health method for the public. one.

The concept of "hydrogen water" is actually very simple. It is to add high-purity hydrogen to ordinary drinking water . Below we will introduce some knowledge about hydrogen water so that everyone can better understand hydrogen water:


1.  The concentration of hydrogen wateris different from that of water. Hydrogen is a non-polar molecule , so the amount of hydrogen that can be dissolved in water is actually very small .In an environment of one atmosphere and 20 degrees Celsius , the maximum concentration of hydrogen dissolved in water is  1.6ppm , which means that only 1.6 milligrams of hydrogen can be dissolved in each kilogram of water.

Although the concentration is not high, hydrogen water still has a good effect in terms of antioxidant effect. Studies have pointed out that as long as the concentration of hydrogen water reaches  0.3ppm , it can effectively resist oxidation and scavenge highly toxic free radicals .


2.  Half-life of hydrogen waterAfter hydrogen is dissolved in water, it will still slowly leave the water in an open container, causing the hydrogen concentration in the water to gradually decrease. This is called the "temporary dissolution" of hydrogen.After experiments, it can be found that in an open container, the half-life of hydrogen water ( the time required for the concentration to be reduced by half ) is 2 hours . Based on a cup of 1.6ppm ( the highest concentration of hydrogen soluble in water ) , after being placed in an open container for 2 hours, the concentration is still 0.8ppm ; after being placed for 4 hours, the concentration is still 0.4ppm . Hydrogen water at this concentration still has the effect of eliminating toxic free radicals and anti-oxidation.

Although the concentration of hydrogen water will decrease over time, you can still enjoy the effects of "hydrogen molecules" as long as you drink hydrogen water within an appropriate period of time.


3.  Will hydrogen water explode?

Whether it is about hydrogen health care or hydrogen water, everyone will have questions: "Is it safe? Will it explode?"

For hydrogen to explode, its concentration needs to be between 4% and 75% , and the instantaneous high temperature must reach 527 degrees Celsius before it burns and explodes. Under normal environmental conditions, the concentration of hydrogen water is far below the lower limit of 4% , so there is no risk of explosion .


4.  Is negative hydrogen ion water and negative potential water hydrogen water?

Negative hydrogen ion water is completely different from hydrogen water! The current research on hydrogen health care is all about "hydrogen gas ( hydrogen molecules ) ", which only proves that hydrogen gas ( hydrogen molecules ) has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and cannot be confused with negative hydrogen ions!

Although the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) of hydrogen water is negative ( negative potential ) due to the reducing nature of hydrogen , it does not mean that water with negative potential is hydrogen water. Negative potential water only meansthe ORPis negative, but it does not mean that this glass of water still contains hydrogen. Including green tea, breast milk, etc., can turn water into a negative potential.


So how do we ensure that what we drink is water containing "hydrogen"?

The simplest method is to first measure the oxidation-reduction potential of drinking water, then put the hydrogen produced by the hydrogen machine into the water to make hydrogen water, and then measure the oxidation-reduction potential of the hydrogen water again. If the ORP value of the latter is low, it can be determined that hydrogen gas is indeed present in the water.

After confirming that hydrogen gas really exists in the water, you can then use the Heinz's Law constant to confirm the concentration of hydrogen water. As long as the concentration is higher than 0.3 ppm , you can achieve health care effects through this cup of hydrogen water.
